*Prelude: I was not feeling so good. Now I feel a little bit better. That's all I weel say about it. It's a process.
Today I finally got it into me to clear out my junk... only to realise that I am a H-O-A-R-D-E-R. In the midst of de-hoarding, I came across some pictures of my grandfather's funeral. I don't remember ever seeing these photos. So it came as a shock. The kind where you physically feel a stab in your heart and the burn in the back of your eyes.
Anyway. So that's why I'm here. I wanted to say something to gong gong.
Dear Gong Gong,
I am doing ok. Thanks for helping out with my SPM exams. I swear you were in the room when I did the tests. That is the only possible explanation for my results (despite the non-studying).
Since then, I went to university, graduated and am now back home working. Some years have been good. And some years bad. And so it goes.
I don't see Ah Ma as often as I want to - and I'm really sorry for that. I will make a real effort to do it now, no excuses. I know we don't have that much time left. But you'll be happy to know she's doing really well. She is a major hit at the park. It is perhaps more a testament to her, than a verdict on me, that she has many many more friends than I do. She recently started wearing sunglasses "for her eyes" she says, but I think we both know that she thinks it looks cool.
Next month YL is getting married. He's a nice boy from penang and they seem very happy. YS already has her baby who is literally the cutest baby in the world, you would love her. EH has a nice girlfriend from Australia who is super cute - please tell him not to be a dick to her, also please tell him that his american accent is very annoying.
So you see. The third generation is doing just fine. I am now your last grandkid who has chosen to stay in Malaysia, the country which you left China for! Everyone else is in New Zealand, US and Singapore. Sometimes its not easy to stay here - so I understand why they made the choices they did. But you know, at the end of the day, this is my country and I will love it to the day I die.
So that's it for now. Sorry I didn't go for Ceng Beng this year. Papa keeps "forgetting" to tell me, which is super uber CRAZY annoying.
